Viginia National Guard General Responds to Governor's Threat
Virginia democrats are in a hot mess and they haven't even taken over the legislature yet. Before they even started the new year, they were hard at work typing out bills that would strip Virginians of their 2nd Amendment rights. The police responded by refusing to enforce any new legislation and the democrats responded by proposing legislation that would fire and blackball police officers refusing to enforce their new laws. When that backfired in the press, Gov. Northam threatened to send in the Virginia National Guard to enforce the law.
Maj. Gen. Timothy P Williams Responds
It would be tough for a Governor to call in the National Guard to perform law enforcement duties. Naturally, people responded to the threat by calling the Virginia National Guard for their response. Here's an excerpt from MG Williams' message to his troops.
"We have received multiple questions regarding proposed legislation for the 2020 General Assembly session and the authority of the Governor of Virginia to employ the Virginia National Guard in a law enforcement role. Please make sure you share this message with your all of your personnel.
We understand and respect the passion people feel for the U.S. Constitution and 2nd Amendment rights. We will not speculate about the possible use of the Virginia National Guard. I encourage everyone to be patient while we allow our elected officials to work through the legislative process.
We have not received any requests from the Governor, or anyone on his staff, about serving in a law enforcement role related to any proposed legislation.
I expect our Soldiers, Airmen and members of the Virginia Defense Force to be professional and respectful in their discussions about this subject. As private citizens, our personnel are free to express their opinions to their elected officials, but they should not engage in any political activity while in a uniformed status.
We will provide regular updates when appropriate during the General Assembly session. Please utilize your chain of command to direct any questions or concerns to my office, and we will do our best to address them."
It Wasn't the Response You Were Anticipating?
I'm sure most of you were waiting for the General to come out and say, "We won't comply." For right now, the Governor is throwing a bit of a hissy fit that people won't listen to him. When a politician spouts off, you can't expect a General to spout nonsense back. In this case, the General used his words to indicate that he wants the elected leaders to get their act together. You won't hear a General outwardly defy a politician. After all, the civilians are in charge of the military. But, the General did send a subtle message that the Governor should get his act together before making any decisions.
The Big Boogaloo Isn't Happening Yet
I keep hearing about the "boogaloo" and how it's ready to start. Not yet my friends. Right now, the politicians are all talk. You should be happy to see that law enforcement is pushing back against their ideas by saying they won't comply. Now the Virginia National Guard let them know to get their act together. We will continue pushing back while the people of Virginia come up with a plan to replace these politicians in the next election cycle.
