Gun Control Bills Introduced: The War has Begun
With all of the mayhem at the capitol on January 6th, democrats wasted no time and introduced some gun control bills. People in the 2A community are saying to not worry. I thought the same thing when I lived in California, but look how that turned out.
People forget how Obama was unable to get his gun control bills through because the democrats didn't hold congress and the White House. Now they do and they are prepping for war. Don't count on your favorite democrat to vote on the side of the 2A. If you haven't noticed, the country is a very different place than it was a few years ago. Our politicians are more polarized and they want gun legislation now.
With that said, here's the new legislation that was introduced.
H.R.30
The bill states that it is to increase public safety by punishing and deterring firearms trafficking. There is no available information on it as of yet. I was introduced by Rep. Bobby Rush (D) of Illinois
H.R.121
To provide for the hiring of 200 additional Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents and investigators to enforce gun laws. They really need people processing Forms 1-4 to reduce wait times, but why would they do that?
H.R.125
To amend Title 18, United States Code, to provide for a 7-day waiting period before a semi automatic firearm, a silencer, armor piercing ammunition, or a large capacity ammunition magazine may be transferred.
Texans take note: This was introduced by one of your Democrat legislators. A 7 day waiting period for a silencer is a joke. People are waiting anywhere from 6 months to a year and a half for ATF to process their Form 4. However, a 7 day waiting period does nothing to provide for public safety. We've discussed this before on our podcast here.
Worse yet, you have to wait 7 days for a magazine!
H.R.127
To provide for the licensing of firearm and ammunition possession and the registration of firearms, and to prohibit the possession of certain ammunition. This is another horrible gun control bill. This bill would be like California's where you have to have a background check to receive ammunition. It is another back door effort to make it as hard as possible for gun owners to enjoy their sport. It is not working well in California and we should expect that it will be horrible for us. This is another gun control bill introduced by a Texas legislator.
H.R.130
To require the safe storage of firearms and ammunition, and to require the investigation of reports of improper storage of firearms or ammunition.
We had this in CA, although this was introduced by a Texas Legislator. It did not stop crime, it did not stop accidental shootings and it just served as another way to criminalize gun owners.
H.R.167
To prohibit the transfer of a firearm at a gun show by a person who is not a federally licensed firearms dealer.
What Can You Do?
Don't be blase' about these bills. The democrats hold all of the cards right now. Let your congressional delegation know that you do not support this assault on the second amendment and you demand that they vote appropriately. Make sure that you cite each HR bill.
