I realize that in the world of guns & gear reviews, I am not just a little fish, I am a minnow. Because of that, it is a rare event when I have a manufacturer reach out to me and offer to send a product for me to review. More often than not when that happens, it is a Chinese company, in very poorly translated English, offering to send me a product that they sell on Amazon.
So when I had an actual American optics company reach out to me and offer to send me one of their new LPVO’s to test, I was pretty happy. I looked at their products on their website, read the specs and was even happier because it looked like their products were something I would actually be interested in reviewing.
After thinking about it for a few days, I replied and an email conversation went back and forth discussing which optic of theirs I would like to review. Attached to one of the emails was a contract that they wanted me to sign.
That contract required me to complete a “full length video showcasing” the optic. Required me to post a specific number of photos (with specific directions for the photos) on social media and to top it off, they required that all my content be reviewed by them and IF AND ONLY IF they approved would I be allowed to publish the review.
Sorry, that is not how I work. 2A Cops is here for gun related commentary and product reviews. We are not an advertising company.
And just to clarify, I am not out here looking to hammer companies or their products, but I am also not going to let a product manufacturer dictate to me what I am allowed to put in my review of their product.
If you want my opinion, you get my opinion, not a watered down approved version of my opinion. If that is the type of “review” you want, there are gun related websites which do precisely that, but 2A Cops aint one of them.
