VA: Call in the Army If Cops Won't Enforce Unconstitutional Gun Laws
Last month, Virginia lost both houses of their legislature to the Democrats. Now they are pushing full steam ahead with laws on Universal Background Checks, an "Assault Weapons" ban, and a Red Flag Law. The people that matter know that these are unconstitutional gun laws.
As we've said in the past, cops are staunchly pro second amendment. Sure enough, more than 70 counties in Virginia have proclaimed themselves as "Gun Sanctuaries" with several chief law enforcement officers stating they will refuse to enforce any unconstitutional gun laws.
We Won't Comply With Unconstitutional Gun Laws
Now the state legislature is in a quandary. They ignorantly thought the police would carry out their orders, but they won't. What happens when the police outwardly refuse to comply with unlawful legislation?
Democratic Virginia Rep. Donald McEachin suggested cutting off government funds for counties that do not comply with any gun control measures. McEachin suggested,
“They certainly risk funding, because if the sheriff's department is not going to enforce the law, they're going to lose money. The counties' attorneys offices are not going to have the money to prosecute because their prosecutions are going to go down,” he said.
Yes, those are his words. The county District Attorney will lose money by not prosecuting crimes. Seriously? Wouldn't we all love it if the District Attorney had fewer crimes to prosecute? The system is already bogged down with real crime like crimes against children, domestic violence and organized crime. We should not be prosecuting people so that we can keep the money flowing to the county prosecutor.
McEachin Threatens Military Action Against Law Enforcement
McEachin doubled down on stupid comments when he next said,
“And ultimately, I'm not the governor, but the governor may have to nationalize the National Guard to enforce the law,” he said. “That's his call, because I don't know how serious these counties are and how severe the violations of law will be. But that's obviously an option he has.”
Obviously Mr. McEachin doesn't know members of the National Guard. Most members of the National Guard are as pro 2nd Amendment as the cops are.
Virginia's Attorney General Blames the "Gun Lobby"
Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring blamed the state's many resolutions on the "gun lobby" as a tactic to scare state residents. However, the gun lobby isn't behind this, it is the Sheriffs and Chiefs that are putting their foot down to protect their residents.
AG Herring told a local news station,
“The resolutions that are being passed are being ginned up by the gun lobby to try to scare people. What we’re talking about here are laws that will make our communities and our streets safer,”
The problem with politicians these days is that they are enacting unconstitutional gun laws and expect the police to be their muscle. We, the police, are not standing for it. The politicians need to understand that we take our oath seriously and that we won't be used as pawns in their political games.
When A Presidential Hopeful Wants to Go Nuclear
This isn't the first time that a politician has used the threat of violence against gun owners. Late last year, Rep Eric Swalwell (who unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic Presidential Nomination) threatened this against a gun owner,
And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit. I’m sure if we talked we could find common ground to protect our families and communities.
OK, Eric really isn't going to nuke anyone, but it shows how unhinged the left is when it comes to gun laws. No, no one will seize guns on a mass scale because the people tasked with seizing those guns (us, the police) won't comply on a wide scale.
There will be outliers like California's Department of Justice's Bureau of Firearms (BOF). 2A Cops wrote about this dirty little unit in an article you can read here. I know they are taking on some bad people, but they are also going after people buying ammunition in Nevada to circumvent California's illegal background check program for ammunition. They are less than 50 agents compared to the thousands of cops in CA that don't enforce that, and other, laws. Those are the outliers and, to be honest, they are treated harshly by the rest of us.
You Can Sleep Safe at Night
You can sleep safe at night knowing that cops are already standing up for your gun rights. You see that in Virginia on a wide scale. It has been happening in other states. It is unrealistic to believe that the National Guard would really be called to enforce these unconstitutional gun laws. It is one ignorant law maker grasping at straws as he is ignored by the people that matter. We will continue to stand up for your rights.
