Clerk Shoots Robber: Watch the Video & Get Tips on How to Shoot Him Sooner
Two people entered Kams Market in Bay Point, CA just after 11:00 p.m. Monday and one robber pistol-whipped the clerk who shot and killed one of the suspects. The two robbers fled out of the store where one suspect fell dead on Lynbrook and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
Only Bad Guys Carry Guns in This Town
Bay Point, CA sounds like it would be a nice place, but it really isn't. It is a pretty violent town. I should know. I lived a few cities over and did a number of drug search warrants there and one SWAT call out that brought my agency there. Even though it is a tough city, California has ensured that the good residents there can't carry a pistol to protect themselves. Only the criminals are walking around armed in that city. Contra Costa County is one of the counties in California that rarely issues a concealed weapons permit. How hard is it to get one there? I lived in that county and had an issue with a prior arrestee making threats to kill me at my house. I tried to help my wife get a CCW there using this and the restraining order that the court issued to justify a concealed carry permit. My wife was promptly denied because the Sheriff's Office said it wasn't necessary because we had a restraining order. If it was hard for my wife to get one, how hard would it be for this store clerk to get one? The clerk should be OK legally though. In California, he is allowed to have a handgun in his business. We are ecstatic that he is OK. But, we want you to watch the video of the robbery and then we are going to offer some tips to keep from getting pistol whipped in the first place and how to more easily defend yourself. Pre Attack Indicators
Two robbers enter the store and you can see they are wearing masks. This is your first clue to get ready to impose your will upon the bad guys. I know it is winter time as we write this, but this is California. It's not that cold. The robbers then go through the store and are very apparently start checking the store for other people.
Situational Awareness: See The Robber Before He Sees You
The store clerk isn't watching the two as they come into the store. If he had seen them come in, it would be appropriate to get ready for the fight. Who walks into a store with a mask with a friend and then starts clearing it to look for people before they shop? In this case, one robber approached behind the counter and starts taking the money from the cash register. The clerk pats the robber away and is pistol whipped by the suspect. The clerk grabs his gun in a box near the register and then shoots at the bad guy.
Keep Your Gun on You
Keeping your gun in a box doesn't help you in a self defense situation. We recommend that you carry your pistol in a good holster on your person. Go to the range and practice at least once a month. If the clerk is reading this, there is a great range just down the road from your store. Now, with situational awareness going and your pistol on your person you can react quickly when they come into the store. The people that run this blog are all California cops or retired California cops. We truly believe that all good citizens should carry a concealed gun on them if they can.
