Biden Says he Will Launch Gun Control on Jan 20
Joe Biden plans to issue executive orders on gun control on his first day in office, according to his top policy aide, Stef Feldman. Feldman included Biden's gun control plan in a list of executive actions that Biden plans to unleash immediately after inauguration day.
During a video briefing that was hosted by Georgetown University, she said that Biden is planning to “make big, bold changes through executive action, not just on policing and climate like we talked about previously, but in healthcare and education on gun violence, on a range of issues.” Feldman added, “There's really a lot you can do through guidance and executive action.”
Most of Biden's gun control plan focuses on what people can have and not have. I wrote an article on Biden's gun control plan last week, but most of what he is focusing on is prohibiting the sale of rifles like the AR-15, making semi automatic weapons part of the NFA, and eliminating internet sales of guns, ammunition and gun parts. By making these guns NFA items, they will be in the same category as machine guns, silencers, short barreled rifles and short barreled shotguns.
Biden Linking Gun Control to Public Health
To make matters worse, Everytown for Gun Safety is pushing the Biden administration to enact gun control executive orders immediately after taking office. Everytown asked the Biden administration on Thursday to enact executive orders that would regulate the tracking of homemade firearms, require background checks for virtually all gun sales and mandate dealers notify the F.B.I. when they complete gun sales before completing a background check.
Everytown and other groups are saying that gun control is necessary since "gun violence" is a public health issue. In the past year, we have seen massive government overreach with COVID in the name of "public health."
Many people in the gun industry say that Biden will not be able to push through gun control measures, just as Obama had troubles pushing through legislation. I would like to remind those people that we thought the same thing in California, as did gun owners in Virginia. As always, be vigilant and be active in the fight against gun control.
