Biden Calls for Assault Weapons Ban on Heels of Latest Tragedy
In 2008, a Rahm Emanuel (who would later become Obama's Chief of Staff) said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before." Obama's former VP and now President, Biden, isn't letting the shooting in Colorado yesterday go to waste.
Biden Asks for Assault Weapons Ban, Even Stating He Didn't Have All of the Facts
Even before the facts of the case are known, Biden pushed for an assault weapons ban. Biden admitted not having all of the information when he said,
"While we're still waiting for more information regarding the shooter; his motive; the weapons he used -- the guns, the magazines, the weapons, and the modifications that apparently have taken place to those weapons that are involved here -- I don't need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take commonsense steps that will save the lives in the future and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act.
We can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country once again. I got that done when I was a senator. It passed. It was law for the longest time, and it brought down these mass killings. We should do it again."
President Biden
This is alarming since there is a bill introduced by Senator Diane Feinstein asks to ban modern sporting rifles. Even though we don't know all of the facts, the democrats aren't letting a tragedy go to waste.

I was a cop in California for 30 years where we had this same "assault weapons" ban. It didn't work. All it did was keep law abiding citizens from protecting themselves. All the while, the democrats at the state and federal levels are passing pro criminal legislation making the world even more dangerous for the law abiding.
Biden Asks to Close "Charleston Loophole"
Biden didn't just stop at asking for a ban of modern sporting rifles. Biden also said,
"We can close the loopholes in our background check system, including the 'Charleston loophole.' That's one of the best tools we have right now to prevent gun violence. The Senate should immediately pass -- let me say it again: The United States Senate -- I hope some are listening -- should immediately pass the two House-passed bills that close loopholes in the background check system. These are bills that received votes of both Republicans and Democrats in the House. This is not and should not be a partisan issue; this is an American issue. It will save lives -- American lives -- and we have to act. We should also ban assault weapons in the process."
President Biden
There is a bill that passed the house and is in the senate on mandating federal background checks and a waiting period on all gun sales. It is sponsored by Pelosi and Schumer, so you can bet this will pass while the democrats use the latest tragedy to their advantage.
Street Cop View
The shooting in Boulder, CO is a horrible incident. We lost one of our own who was defending the people in that store. Matt and I have discussed how we can support the second amendment in light of losing friends in the line of duty. However, an assault weapons ban will not prevent these tragedies. What will stop these tragedies is enforcement of current laws (not more laws), better mental health support for those that need it and tighter border controls. That's what will stop gun violence. I come from a state with strict gun control reform and all it does is penalize the good people of that state.
You also need to take charge of your own safety. It will take at least 5 minutes for an officer to come on scene of a violent act. A lot can happen in that time. Carry a concealed handgun always and get as much training as you can. If there was a trained concealed carrier in that store, they could have ended this right as it started.
